The Jack Mackerel are here to stay, just like how chocolate is now so strongly laced with Palm oil. The companies get cheap ass ingredients and sell it to us for the same price.

is it just my local area or is the whole of the UK having a shortage of sardines in water/brine/oil? i can only find sardines in tomato sauce (i've tried my local tesco, sainsbury's, asda and lidl).

I believe the hard piece in the Jack Mackerel is the operculum, which is the hard boney scale that covers the gills on fishes that have one 🐠

I wondered why the tin of mackerel I got a few weeks ago tasted to different to what I remembered. Hadn't had it in years but I didn't remember it being so dry and fishy.
