People are genuinely dumb. Thor was shown hitting his hammer towards Thanos before he grabbed Tony. Thanos was facing Thor, so he saw it. Thanos was obviously using Tony as a shield, which is why Tony went flying. If he was genuinely trying to rip Tony in half, he wouldn't have gone flying so easily
