I don’t really agree with your assessment of his testimony. But regardless, I continue to just not believe that this woman had a desire to rid her life of her children for some other motive beyond mental illness driving her to a belief this was the right thing to do. To feel differently means you have to believe she is a truly demented person and I just cannot be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that it was the case. For me personally I do not see it. But a jury can believe something else.

Dr. Resnick single-handedly proved she was criminally sane during the killings. he literally wrote the book on this and said a report of one singular command hallucination probably means the patient is lying. He also said ppl almost never act on the very first command hallucination they hear.

Acting on a first command is also very WEIRD. People who commit acts based on commands and voices can be influenced by them over years and eventually act to soothe them. It would be like me killing my mom because my friend told me to do it once. There is no difference for the recipient between someone hearing “voices” and someone being directly talked to. There are only a couple of options, either you’re aware enough that they are false voices, which Lindsay obviously was because she viewed them as significant to the act and recognized that the voices went against her social beliefs, or number two, being so delusional that you can’t differentiate between real and fake voices, and that’s when someone may eventually act to soothe them after being influenced over time. People who kill during psychosis are still killers. They’re still mentally competent to make decisions. The difference is that how they perceive their actions can change dramatically, which shouldn’t automatically be an excuse. We don’t use ASPD as an excuse, so using fast paced mental changes shouldn’t really be one either. The only excuses that are TRULY excuses are mental impairments that are 100% physical, where you genuinely lose the physical ability to rationalize and make decisions for yourself, like Alzheimer’s.

My theory: Third child was a pain in the ass and that stressed her out. She hated her own kid because of that and that made her feel guilty. She wanted drugs to help her escape from the reality of having to raise a kid that wasn’t as easy as the other two. She doctor shopped for drugs. Didn’t care about anything else except getting benzos. Killed her kids because she felt they ruined her life. The autopsies established that those kids experienced a very violent end. Used his own research she was likely malingering based on his own conclusions from his experience. His explanation to differentiate Lindsay from moms who fake voices was insanely weak and ineffective. They quite brilliantly pointed out his short yes or no answers on cross were a professional tactic he taught to other professionals to avoid being challenged by the opposing side in court. He only veered from this tactic when he needed to reframe his answer and help Lindsay and it really helped make him look bias.

Is there any evidence of psychosis prior to the murders? I've only been half following the case. The only data point I've seen is the chaplain claiming that she said that her kids were safe upon waking up.

That’s not what he said. DA said: “according to your report, you could find no rational non-psychotic motive?” He agreed he couldn’t find a non-psychotic motive, and that it’s possible for a motive to exist that you aren’t aware of, but he did NOT say that he concluded she was psychotic solely because he couldn’t find a rational motive. He identified what he considered affirmative evidence of psychosis.
