The destruction of the Black family is not just a cultural issue. It is an economic emergency. The statistics consistently tell us that family stability is associated with stronger economic outcomes, better educational outcomes for children, and important advantages in health, safety, and long-term opportunity. That does not mean every two-parent household is healthy, or that single parents cannot raise extraordinary children. They absolutely can. But we cannot be afraid to study patterns simply because the conversation makes people uncomfortable. For decades, Black families have been hit by forces that tore communities apart. The crack epidemic devastated neighborhoods. The War on Drugs sent enormous numbers of people into the criminal justice system. Mass incarceration removed fathers, mothers, workers, mentors, taxpayers, and future business owners from communities that desperately needed them. The consequences did not disappear when people came home. They showed up in employment. They showed up in household wealth. They showed up in childhood trauma. They showed up in relationships. They showed up in community safety. And they showed up in the enormous racial wealth gap we are still fighting today. Building Black wealth cannot simply mean buying stocks. We have to build strong families. We have to protect children. We have to support responsible fathers and mothers. We have to create healthy marriages and relationships. We have to teach financial literacy. We have to create businesses, own assets, invest consistently, and build institutions that our children can inherit. Nobody is coming to do this for us. This is our responsibility. This is our moment. And we have to do it together. I teach a free class every morning about Black wealth, economics, investing, family, and culture.
