iirc there’s a statistic that a large percentage of non-violent offenders are incarcerated because they’re broke. They can’t afford the bail even it’s low as 100 dollars.

USA puts people in jail for just a court order, which means you dont have to commit a crime to be in jail. The government arrests people just because of a judicial order because prisons have contractual obligation to incarcerate a maximum number of people.
