I read this story. all stolen. found the receipts in garbage. brings in merch to return. steals more. more fake receipts. confuses the cashier with all those bags. they thought it was a full proof scam

The front desk may have a cash register, but its not meant to ring up an order. These thieves know that, but incorporate the front desk as part of their plan to overwhelm the staff with confusing and redundant transactions.

So many of these arrests for shoplifting have similar characteristics: usually will involve the service counter so that the criminals can try to blame the cashiers. They try to over complicate the process: she brings in stuff she wants to return, then returns stuff she just had the cashier ring up.
