@ask9.training.sup: Having a powerful, high-drive dog around children isn’t about taking the drive out of them. It’s about teaching them when that drive is appropriate and when it isn’t. Boundaries, obedience, neutrality and impulse control aren’t optional extras when you have dogs and children growing up together. They’re the foundation that allows both sides to understand each other safely. A dog should know that a child isn’t a playmate they can control, and a child should be taught to respect the dog’s space, boundaries and communication too. But I also think there’s something incredibly beautiful about allowing children to grow up alongside dogs like this. They learn patience. Responsibility. Respect. Communication. They learn that animals have feelings, limits and needs of their own. And dogs teach children things we sometimes can’t, without saying a single word. The goal isn’t to keep our children and dogs separated out of fear. It’s to train our dogs, educate our children, set clear boundaries and build a relationship where both can safely thrive together. Because when it’s done right, they don’t just grow up with each other, they genuinely help raise each other. I will forever be in absolute awe of Skadi and Beau’s relationship.
