Isabelle :
Yesterday, on the bus from Bournemouth to Swanage (about an hour’s journey), I sat next to an older lady and we got chatting.
She told me that when she was 59, she met a new man. She’d never been camping before, but he suggested they did. Their very first camping trip was a disaster, stormy, horrible weather, definitely not a success! He said to her, “You’re probably never going to want to go camping again.” And she replied, “Why not?” 😂
And that was the beginning of their adventures. They travelled all over, camping in the wild in England and France, and even travelled to places like New Zealand and China. They each kept their own homes, hers in the Greater London area and his near Dorchester, but shared a wonderful life together for 18 years, until he sadly died.
Then I asked her how old she was. She said, “84.”
And there she was, travelling to Swanage on her own for the day, probably to have an ice cream, look at the sea and watch the world go by.
I found her incredibly inspiring. ❤️It made me think that life is always offering us little opportunities, little suggestions, little adventures. Sometimes you just have to say “yes” or simply, “Why not?” instead of saying, “I’m too old for that,” or “I couldn’t manage that.”
Maybe we should all be a little more like her and see where those little “why nots” take us. 🌊🍦❤️
