The daughter of Ryoko and Asaki Fueguchi, Hinami grows up in a loving ghoul family until both of her parents are killed by CCG investigators. Their deaths become one of the earliest tragedies in the manga and permanently change Hinami's life. After losing her family, she is taken in by Anteiku, where Yoshimura, Touka Kirishima, Ken Kaneki, and the other employees become her new home. Unlike many ghouls introduced early in the series, Hinami is naturally kind, gentle, and compassionate. She struggles to understand the hatred between humans and ghouls and rarely desires violence. Even after experiencing the loss of both parents, she continues to believe that people can care for one another regardless of which side they belong to. Her personality makes her one of the emotional centers of the story. Hinami possesses a rare combination of two kagune inherited from her parents. From her mother she inherits a ukaku kagune, while from her father she inherits a koukaku kagune. This unique trait allows her to fight using both kagune simultaneously, making her one of the few known ghouls in the manga capable of doing so. As the story progresses, she learns to use both abilities with increasing precision and confidence. During the original Tokyo Ghoul, Hinami forms a close bond with Ken Kaneki. She admires his kindness and looks to him as both a protector and an older brother figure. Kaneki, in return, constantly tries to shield Hinami from the cruelty of the world around them. Their relationship remains one of the strongest emotional connections throughout the manga. After the fall of Anteiku, Hinami continues living while carrying the memories of the people she lost. During the events of Tokyo Ghoul:re, she is eventually captured by the CCG and imprisoned inside Cochlea. Her imprisonment becomes one of Kaneki's greatest motivations, leading him and Goat to launch an operation to rescue her. Following her rescue, Hinami rejoins her friends and continues supporting Goat during the final conflict. Throughout the series, Hinami matures from a frightened child into a capable and dependable young woman. While she becomes much stronger as a fighter, the manga consistently emphasizes that her greatest strength is her compassion. Even during war, she refuses to lose the kindness that defined her from the very beginning. After the Dragon incident and the conclusion of the conflict between humans and ghouls, Hinami survives and begins living in the new era created after the events of Tokyo Ghoul:re.
