Black Women die the most frequently during pregnancy and birth in the US. Since this country is built on systems of oppression and racism, I'd start there.

I’d like there to be mental health treatment for all. Remove the stigma (wishfully) if we all go to therapy!

I think the best place to start would be for people in the us to have what those in pretty much every other first world country have like universal healthcare, paid maternity/paternity leave, free/affordable childcare, and education. Moms shouldn’t have to go into debt to have babies, be denied healthcare and expected to return to work right after giving birth. We also need community and stop holding mothers to this impossible standard doing it all on their own or they’re a failure. We weren’t meant to do this alone. Second we need moms to feel safe to say I can’t do this I need a break I need help without the fear of their children being permanently taken from them. Taking children from parents should be the absolute last option. Lastly, er doctors/nurses/etc. should have more training in caring for people that are in mental health crisis and we need better options for getting treatment in these cases. Oh and more research into the effect of hormones in cases of ppd/ppa/ppp and how to stabilize them.

Universal healthcare and improved access to mental healthcare. Paid maternity & family leave, affordable childcare, free feminine hygiene products, emergency contraception, and protected access to abortion. We need more resources for mothers experiencing postpartum struggles, so they can get the help they need without fearing that reaching out will automatically result in their children being taken away. We need stronger protections for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, better maternal healthcare and efforts to reduce maternal mortality, and more research and funding dedicated to women’s health, chronic illnesses, hormonal conditions, and the way medications affect women.

A large part of the problem is lack of awareness. When you asked the women in chat how many knew about PPD/PPP and the answer was not "all of us", that was a REVELATION. A lot of the taboo and unintentional (and dangerous) ignorance can be fixed directly by adding education of these to sexual education curriculum! Bonus: more thorough understanding of bodily and hormone changes would likely act as a very effective birth control!!! Let me see how many teen pregnancies there are when they learn they won't fit into that new pair of heels, their hair may fall out, and they will pee when they laugh.

I want to advocate more for women. My mother suffered a lot in her life, although, she passed; I want to be her voice that was never heard. I believe more policies for maternity leave and domestic violence need to be implemented. Women and only women need to be involved in disorders assigned for women in the DSM.

I would push on those who update the DSM. Anytime there's a scholarly change healthcare workers are supposed to receive training. getting big tickets like free healthcare won't happen during this administration. we have to move the Overton window a little at a time. APA publishes the DSM. https://www.apa.org/about/contact/
