My daughter is in P2 at RGPS this year. Back in 2024, we were still living in Sembawang, more than 2km away from RGPS. We decided to try our luck and apply under Phase 2C. That year, even Singapore Citizens living outside 2km had to go through balloting , and she managed to secure a place. After she got into RGPS, we started looking for a home closer to the school and eventually moved to Shelford Road.

Both my children graduated from this school years ago. It’s overrated. Be prepared to fork out thousands on top tier tuition if you want your girl to do well. Only a small percentage make it to elite sec schools, you don’t hear abt the majority who go to normal neighbourhood sec schools.

While I respect the commitment, I think it also needs to be said that this also comes with certain level of privilege, and there are good schools everywhere beyond those elite ones. Buying and moving houses for your kids requires a lot of financial means or leverage. So if anyone is seeing and wondering if you’re doing enough, your best is good enough. Do not overstretch yourself financially and health wise to meet the standards that was never yours to meet. Your presence is good enough. A loved and happy kid is good enough.
