it is executive dysfunction, and you shouldn't say its just laziness however he does still gotta do the stuff he doesn't want/cant do anyways

oversimplified: we all have executive dysfunction. some of us white knuckle through it. it's irksome when others seem to not put in the effort that we do.

He can do it, but he’ll probably do it last minute. ADHD people work best under a time crunch.

You know that feeling where you don't like something and you really don't wanna do it? Imagine the executive function that prevents him from not wanting to pack your bag feels like that. But it's not related to not liking it. It's more of an intrinsic feeling. It's almost like a physiological sense that you can't pick up an object because your body makes you feel it's going to be too heavy. That's the best way I can describe it. For example, I really love doing art. I love drawing. There are days where it just seems hard for no reason. And I gotta do it. And then I start getting avoidant or evasive. It's not laziness., It's more of a more physiological version of evasiveness. It's kind of like how depression makes you tired. Or makes your body feel really heavy for no reason.

The way I see it: bc of the adhd you recognize it as a disability and therefore shouldn’t resent what they’re not good at but instead work with them to find ways to accommodate the things they struggle with. But they have to be willing to try the accommodations. (Timing things differently, physically writing down their thoughts and things to do more, scheduling things over time like you gotta pick one shirt per hour that goes into it, gamifying it) also, it helps to have a rationale behind the proactive act imoe with adhd. The reasoning of “I can just wait to do this” overrides a lot of stuff, so instead you can change the framing by suggesting “make sure you at least go over the biggest items you need to pack before we leave, last minute packing EVERYTHING leaves some Tetris-thinking or last second ‘oh wait I also want this’s up to our easily derailable trains of thought”

For me personally, my ADHD is so bad that I literally can't do any task until hours before the deadline and I feel like I have superpower because I'm actually able to finish them everytime 😭

you're physically capable of performing the task. you're also physically capable of putting your hand on a hot stove top. in either instance, your brain will be screaming at you not to the entire time

Task initiation and executive dysfunction issues. Lazy is not wanting to do a task that you need to do. Dysfunction is desperately wanting to do something and not being able to get yourself to do it.

I believe Christian will do it eventually. He's not saying he's not gonna do it. He just wanted to vent at that moment and share it to you what he feels. People with ADHD sometimes just need a few moments

I think this feeling can also/in addition come from being constantly rushed as a child and never being taught to happily do things at your own pace.

Executive dysfunction isn’t ’not wanting to do something’. You literally can’t do it.

it's actually kind of sad cause so many people with ADHD feel a lot shame around their executive dysfunction specifically because they were called lazy so often while growing up. but there's also weaponized incompetence and I don't know these people 😅

either he'll do it last minute or he needs something else playing or distracting him while he does it, but he'll do it eventually
(I also have executive dysfunction that prevents me from doing basic chores at home like taking out recycling but every now and then I get a sudden drive and clean out my entire apartment in one day)

For some people being called lazy is motivating, it inspires them to rebute that claim/prove it wrong. For others it is demoralizing creating judgment and deeper paralysis. Every brain works differently even if you have adhd.
