What if Ebony is Ivory's internalized homophobia? In 2 we see Ivory pause before entering the church, showing she was most likely taught liking the same gender was a sin and is ashamed of herself for sinning but not knowing how to change. We also hear Ebony say "you're not going to change, are you?" like Ebony knew there is nothing she can do to change Ivory yet still sees it unnatural. Ebony also locks Ivory in a room, making her reflection on her actions like she's sitting in time out, like she did something wrong. Ivory was left alone for so long she started believing something truly was wrong with her. In 4 we see her destroying everything except the fire, what if she belived she didn't deserve anything and the fire represents Ivory's small hope she can change. In 5, what if Ebony wasn't talking about Ivory physically hurting others, but mentally? Ivory makes other people dislike her because she believes she deserves it. "people were only ever your friend because they didn't want to d!e" What if she means people were only Ivory's friend because they felt sorry for her, constantly alone and displeased with herself. "I can take away your fireplace" Ebony can take away Ivory's hope, pushing away the girl Ivory's parent's were talking about, one of the few people she cared for. In 7, "It's called discipline" Ebony still hopes she can force out these feelings Ivory has for other women. "I said stop talking to them" Ebony could be forcing her to stop talking to the girl Ivory likes, hoping distance will help reverse Ivory's feelings. Ebony is be@ting Ivory, she is beating herself up for who she is. "you were born wretched" she is different from what many would say is normal. Many still see it wrong despite how loving someone isn't a choice you can make. Ebony took away her fireplace, her hope, Ivory let Ebony's words and actions sink in, consuming her. In 9 we see a bunch of armor stands, what if they represent 'normal' people? Ivory is the only one that seems to be out of place. We see her walking from the light into the darkness, possibly representing her realization of Ivory's love for someone of the same gender. (Pt. 2 in replys)
