Rumination has a way of taking one negative thought and feeding it until it becomes an entire story. “What if I fail?” “What if they don’t like me?” “What if something goes wrong?” “What if I’m not good enough?” And the more you entertain those thoughts, the louder they can become. But you are not every thought that enters your mind. You don’t have to believe everything you think. Become aware of the thought. Challenge it. Redirect your attention toward what is true, what is good, what you’re grateful for, and what is actually within your control. Scripture tells us to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. That takes practice. You are training your attention instead of allowing fear to train it for you. Don’t let one negative thought become the narrator of your entire life.
