Deciding to move away from having my phone on me all the time also means deciding that it doesn’t need to be the primary home for everything ... camera, games, books, music, news, shopping, etc. When I pick it up to do one thing, I am simultaneously carrying around access to 50 other things. I want separation from my phone and to make it less responsible for my entire life. I want everything to have its own place again. Which is why I recently decided to get a Nintendo Switch 2 to house all my games. Now, I’m not a proficient gamer. I mainly play card games, Candy Crush, Tetris, Sudoku, and board games, but I don’t want my phone to be where I play them. I find myself switching from whatever game I’m playing to doomscrolling, or getting distracted by texts, notifications, and everything else my phone has to offer. I know replacing doomscrolling with playing games may seem counterproductive, there's a difference between consuming an endless stream of content and actively engaging with something. Doomscrolling zaps my concentration. I can spend an hour scrolling and feel like I got nothing out of it as it has no natural stopping point, there's always another video Whereas I can sit down and play Sudoku and think, I can play Tetris and try to beat my previous score, I can play a card game and develop a strategy. I can play through a game and eventually finish it. There's a beginning, middle and end. When I’m playing a game, I’m focused and when I’m done, I feel accomplished. I miss losing myself in my hobbies and interests, so boundaries around my phone are being erected. It doesn’t have to be my camera, my game console, my library, my TV, my music player, my newspaper, and my social life all at once. When I am doing one thing, I want to be doing that thing, even if it's gaming. #nintendoswitch2 #screentime #GamerGirl
