CONGRATULATIONS to the TAIWO HASSAN and the Ogogo Family... This somehow sounds crazy but for those of us who have experienced and witnessed first hand how tough it is for people who are being given palliative care, you will understand why the family needs to be congratulated today. 5 days ago, I wrote about the challenges of Palliative Care. While some wished him recovery even if the chances were slim, some prayed that he gets the much needed "rest". Personally, I am happy and glad Ogogo has gone to rest finally after battling a stage 4 cancer. I choose to smile and celebrate his peace at this moment because of what he might have gone through. Cancer is a beast, palliative care stage is worse! This evening, I watched the video of Ogogo's pregnant daughter screaming in a live video from abroad, asking that a ticket be purchased for her to be in Nigeria to see his body before he is buried. I understand her pain. We had to wait for months for some of my siblings abroad to see my Dad's body before he was finally laid to rest. When my own dad passed on, our eldest sister and first born came into where he was and the first thing she said was "THANK YOU JESUS". She didn't cry at that point because she knew what we had gone through in the last couple of weeks! That stage called palliative care is a phase I would not wish on my worst enemy in this Life no matter what. It is draining in terms of finance, energy, health and many things. Most times, it is not only the sick that is suffering, it is the relatives around. One of the reasons some people sign "DO NOT RESUSCITATE" is simple, they know the pains they are going through and the trauma they are also puting their family through. In the Yoruba movie industry, I used to love Ogogo and Bisi Komolafe as my favourites. I so much liked that Bisi Komolafe that she almost caused issues between me and the lady I was dating that time. Painfully, they are both late and gone. While growing up, Dele Odule, Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo), Yinka Quadri (Masomo, Kura Mateete) and Adebimpe Adekola (Ireti) of blessed memory used to light up the Yoruba movie world in the early 90s till early 2000s. A lot of us silently wished Ogogo and Ireti were true lovers as they used to feature in Yoruba movies back then. This wish got to its peak when the movie - IYAWO ALAREDE (LEGAL WIFE) was produced in the 90s back then. Unfortunately, Ireti died in 2002 at the age of 33. I'm not sure Ireti's void has ever been filled in the Yoruba movie industry till date as she brought a different energy into her acting skills, roles and delivery. In the Nollywood world, I really feel for Yinka Quadri as he has lost more than a colleague in the acting world, he has lost 2 of the people they really started together and he is almost left on his own. Although, it hurts that our tall, dark shining Ogogo is gone, we can however look back at his art and craft to appreciate them and thank God that he has finally gone home to rest! Condolences to the Family and the Nollywood industry, they have lost a rare gem! I pray they find the fortitude to bear the loss. Rest in Peace Ogogo Omo Kulodo!
