But you need to learn that constant consistency isn’t achievable. Shit happens. Every day is different. Just because they didn’t open the car door for you every time today doesn’t mean they don’t love you or love you any less. They could’ve been thinking about something that happened at work and it just slipped their mind. Not every action, or lack of an action, means they feel differently about you. People are different every day. You have to allow room for inconsistency. Don’t use your overthinking as an excuse to overanalyze someone and then penalize them for not constantly accommodating you. You need communication, not perfection. You also need to accept that you’ll never 100% know how someone feels or what they’re thinking, and that’s okay. It sucks, but it’s okay. Enjoy the good, talk about the bad, and live your life.

I wish I knew then what I know now. I used to get aggravated by her doubts and wonder why she needed so much reassurance when I felt like I was doing everything right. I didn’t understand that she wasn’t asking for anything complicated. She just wanted to feel chosen, loved, and secure with me. She opened herself up to me in ways I didn’t fully appreciate, and I took that love for granted. I never thought the things I brushed off back then would become the things I’d regret the most. I fell in love with a woman I never even slept with, and somehow, she loved me more purely than anyone ever has. Now I have to live with knowing I had something genuinely precious in front of me and didn’t realize how much it meant until I couldn’t have it anymore.
