Couple more things: if when ya crack the plug on the bottom the fluid is red, you’ve opened the transmission. Most plugs will be a 15-20mm socket (or approx 5/8-3/4). The book manual that came with your car will have the info for what kind of oil your car calls for, it is important to get the right kind to ensure health of your motor. If you don’t have the book, AMSOIL can be a very good reference for what kind and how much oil you’ll need. Most cars will take approx 4-6 quarts of oil depending on the size of motor (bigger motor need more oil), oil is typically sold in either 4qt jugs or 1qt jugs, plan accordingly for what you’ll need. Lots of parts stores run deals on if you buy oil and a filter at the same time, those guys will also know how much of what you’ll need (you can also take your used oil back to them to dispose of it for you, it’s free). Majority of cars will have the oil filter pretty close to the drain plug, but don’t hesitate to google it to make sure, and you should change the filter for every oil change, no matter what anyone says, the extra couple bucks is worth it in the long run. Your oil filter should not be more than hand tight, and make sure that the old gasket comes off when you replace it, if you’ve got two gaskets it won’t seal properly, and will leak your oil out profusely. Oil drain plug shouldn’t be more than a polite “oomph” with a standard wrench or medium small 3/8 ratchet, yes it’s important it’s tight, but it doesn’t need to be insane, and absolutely no power tools for this folks, it’s too much powahhh. If when you drain your oil it’s any other color than dark butterscotch to dark chocolate hersheys syrup, it’s an indicator of many different things, info on this can be easily found online! Happy maintenance everyone
