@decodedpropaganda: I wouldn’t be so quick to write this off as social media extrapolation. It is yet ANOTHER economic indicator, and burying your head in the sand will not protect you. #amex #economics #money #crypto #gold

This just reminded me that my credit limit was reduced last week! I didn’t think about it because I no longer use it since I moved to the UK! 😳

I worked at an international bank for 22 years. this usually happens when credit card debt is being used for daily items, an indicator of people using credit to survive. banks dont have everyone's cash on hand. if theres any issues, they will just close the bank doors to prevent a run.

With all due respect, I think you’re drawing a conclusion from that report that the report itself doesn’t support. What it actually said was that, for the first time in 50 years, the U.S. experienced negative net migration in 2025. The article itself acknowledges that reduced immigration at the border, deportations, and yes, some due to people simply leaving the country all played a role. That doesn’t mean credit-card companies are cutting limits because they think the economy is about to crash. One of the biggest factors behind the negative number is simply that fewer people are “entering” the country illegally. The broader banking data doesn’t show some massive nationwide credit-line contraction, either. Large-bank accounts experiencing credit-line decreases went from 1.58% in Q1 2025 to 1.65% in Q1 2026. So, Amex reduces the limit of a perfectly good customer can simply mean Amex is reassessing portfolio risk and reducing its overall exposure. Banks don’t have to wait for customers to default before taking action; if their models indicate future losses could increase, they can reduce unused credit beforehand. I absolutely recognize that Americans have a lot of credit-card debt and that late payments are a real problem. But I also have my own opinion about how that happened, but I’ll openly acknowledge my opinion could be a little biased. But that’s the point: I’ll identify my opinion as opinion. What I take issue with is presenting information in a way that is misleading, and that’s being generous. You refuse to acknowledge your bias and that well, that’s a lack of character and that isn’t my opinion it is fact. You lost me as a follower because of that. While I’m certainly no big content creator, I will certainly make sure that the people that do follow me are informed of your bias and how you choose to present information. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we should be honest about the facts…regardless of whether they support our politics or ideology. If we’re going to save this country, we have to be willing to look for the truth, even when we don’t like what the truth may say. again with all due respect.

BINGO! They gave me a limit after I left the U.S. in December. Despite my 850 credit score. I hated Deano’s take. I found it smug and out of touch.

Just my opinion :
This happened in 2008 crash. People who had home equity loans were suddenly told that they no longer had access to that money even though they had perfect credit. The crash is about to hit.
