If you owe a microfinance, a village banking group, a bank, a shy-rock or even a friend, watch this before you borrow again. If your phone keeps ringing because you owe someone money, please listen carefully: DO NOT take another loan simply because you are afraid of the person you already owe. This is how a K5,000 problem becomes a K20,000 problem. The calls start. The messages become uncomfortable. You panic. You borrow from another microfinance to pay the first one. Then you borrow from village banking to pay the second. Then you borrow from a friend to survive until payday. Before you know it, you are borrowing to pay borrowing. And the cycle continues. Let me be clear so that you don’t misunderstand my point: If you legitimately owe money, you have a responsibility to repay it. But panic is NOT a repayment strategy. In this video, I explain a practical five-step approach I created to help those in debt: STOP → CALCULATE → COMMUNICATE → NEGOTIATE → DOCUMENT. Stop making financial decisions out of fear. Calculate exactly how much you owe. Communicate with your lender instead of disappearing. Negotiate a realistic repayment arrangement where possible. And document every agreement and every payment. Don’t promise K3,000 because someone frightened you when you genuinely know you can sustainably manage K1,000. Don’t sell everything you own in panic. And most importantly, don’t automatically take another expensive loan just to silence today’s phone calls. Face the problem. Know your numbers. Take responsibility. Communicate. Negotiate and make a realistic plan and start working your way out. If you are currently drowning in debt, I hope this video gives you something more useful than motivation: A CLEAR NEXT MOVE. Please SHARE this video. Someone in your contacts may desperately need to hear this today but may be too embarrassed to tell anyone what they’re going through. FACT:Debt is real. Your obligation to repay is real. But panic is not a repayment strategy. And above everything else: YOU CANNOT BORROW YOUR WAY OUT OF A BORROWING PROBLEM. To learn more read chapter 14 of my book How to start and grow your business I have explained more on debt and how to handle it practically.
