one of the sapphic characters IS one of the main characters. The story starts with Annie, sure, but once it introduces Ramona everything changes. Both sisters are main characters and it will be more noticiable in season 2 because of that ending

i think maybe there a few things about your analysis that seem lacking. 1: she’s a teenager. oona specifically is incredibly nonchalant, so it actually is in character for her to mention past experiences with men if that’s something she has had. she’s also super crass so she might not be talking from her own experience, just finding the most obnoxious way to describe the motion. this is clear in the first episode. 2. you may be perpetuating a gold star lesbian narrative? lesbians don’t need to be ashamed of their pasts. 3. trans lesbians exist. —it feels like you’re viewing this from your own personal experience instead of from a character perspective. instead of being progressive, i think you’ve shoved oona in a box of what you’re comfortable with. these things are all valid lesbian experiences and is only one depiction of lesbianism in this show.

Honestly im a lesbian and ive made jokes like that… with no experience with a guy before . I think it depends on peoples humor, i think if anything the humor is realistic considering im around the same age as their characters and me and my friends have said stuff like this. As weird as it can seem i think the show is very realistic when it comes to humor and their personalities

This seems like nothing to people who watch the show but I’ve watched other works by the director and a lesbian character switching to being attracted to men is very common in her works and she tries to play it off as being progressive

i agree on the points about invalidating oona's sexuality with the drinking comment and the weird comments about sleeping with adults, however, i do think that the comment about hand job was actual suppose to be foreshadowing about annie's character and really had nothing to do with oona. in one of the later episodes, annie reveals that she is a virgin. a fact she seems a bit embarrassed about a first so it would make sense why she would lie about with oona.

A lot of people text their ex when they get drunk, an action they do not want to do when they’re sober, and regret when they’re sober. Oona makes jokes constantly, of course this was a joke. Part of growing into one’s identity is experimentation. Saying it’s “taking the lesbian out of lesbian” for her to make sexual references about men because it implies she may have had sexual relations with men before completely delegitimizes the many lesbians who took time to figure out their identity and experimented with other genders. If lesbians are comfortable talking about their prior experiences then you shouldn’t use that as an opportunity to delegitimize them. Oona is clearly very comfortable in mentioning things typically taboo in society, why would we assume this would be any different.

This is why I’m waiting for the show to gain more seasons because Megan Park has proven to “bail out” on the queer characters she’s put in her past two movies for the sake of “exploration”

i noticed both of those things too and was worried especially since the director, Megan Park, made a gross film that was practically conversion therapy propaganda (a lesbian character meets the perfect man and falls in love with him) but i will say this problem (the first one at least) disappears after the first episode and she only ever is with girls, i also think the creator said her and ramona are both solid and confident in their sexualities so hopefully that doesn’t change

no bc its so sinister how lesbian age gaps are being framed as though they’re harmless, like anna camp who is in her 40s dating a girl in her early 20s, nobody is allowed to say it’s weird without other lesbians & people vehemently defending it 😭😭
