@kporter.stuff: “Spring loaded” means something completely different on a modern stapler than it did decades ago, constant resistance gave way to snap-action, and now a dedicated power-assist stage. Mechanism evolution like this is exactly what we dig into inside The Engineering Exchange. 🙌🏼⚙️ #ProductDesign #MechanicalEngineering #DFM #TheEngineeringExchange
My favorite recent innovation in stapler technology is one that completely flattens the staple so that stapled documents stack better and don't get snagged.

Did you show the swivel to staple stacks of paper in the original stapler?

Come on, if not you, who can disassemble?🥰

My favorite Stapler is a Swingline 747 model! It can staple 24 sheets of paper!

Would this be the same mechanism used in a hand held spring loaded center punch?

I dont think I have used a stapler for at least 10 years. Save our trees and don't use paper unless absolutely necessary.🖖

Nothing like a good old heavy built to last stapler

I find that staplers use such poor materials they become useless after a few staples. And it is poor materials rather than design. Bendy, elastic materials are useless in the mechanism

Amazing. Never really thought about it, but didn’t notice the difference.

the linkages are the weak points, basically more joints, more weak points failure wth constant usage

I used the same technique to make oil fill caps for Pontiac and Buick engines

The new one doesn't look like it can staple a thick stack of papers like the old one could.

This looks like a construction staple gun mechanism, but scaled down for the office. I used to have one with a hinge at the back and it was great.
