I was a spectator and saw the events of the sauna competition firsthand from just a few meters away. When the sauna door opened, the smell of roast pork wafted out. I haven't eaten red meat since then.

The russian guy died because he cheated. He used drugs to not feel pain in sauna. But boiling steam doesnt care about your pain. It will soften your muscles and tissues to the point everything will just fall off. The pain lets you know it's time to go before it's too late. But if you dont feel the pain, your tissues might soften so much that you cant leave the sauna even if you wanted to. That will then cause you to collapse and faint and die slowly in the boiling heat. Steam also doesnt destroy your nerves unlike fire does, so you will feel every second of it, unlike the russian who drugged himself. That'd also be a reason why you're not allowed to go in sauna if you use strong pain medication.
