Replying to @Maureen The requirements can be a little confusing because the medical aid subsidy and your GEPF pension are governed by different criteria. To qualify for the ongoing monthly medical aid subsidy after retirement, you generally need: 1. 15 years of actual government service. This service does not have to be continuous. Previous qualifying periods of government service may count. 2. 12 months of medical aid membership. You must have been the principal member of a recognised medical scheme for the full 12 months immediately before leaving the public service, without a break. 3. The applicable age and exit requirements must also be met. The 10-year requirement relates to pensionable service for certain GEPF pension benefits. It is not an additional requirement to have paid medical aid contributions for 10 years. It is also important to understand that the post-retirement medical subsidy is an employer benefit, not a GEPF pension benefit. The GEPF administers the process, but the eligibility criteria are determined by the employer’s applicable conditions. #Askrowen #gepf #retirement
