“Stronger. Not smaller.” That’s the mindset change I’ve been trying to live by this past week. It’s almost been a year since I decided to actively try losing weight, and while I have been seeing progress, part of me still struggles emotionally when I don’t see the results I expected. One mindset change that I’ve really found freeing was finally accepting that being active isn’t a phase in your life that you go through when you’re trying to lose weight. It’s the entire lifestyle. If I want to keep improving my strength and endurance—and, yes, see results—then being active has to be something I continue doing. Not something I do until I reach a certain weight and then stop. As someone who’s lived most of her teen and adult life with her relationship with movement dictated by her weight, this was honestly such an alien concept to me. “Wdym I have to keep working out?” 😭 But when I reframed it from “I have to work out because I need to lose weight” to “I want to stay active because I want to still be able to do things when I’m older,” it became so much easier. And then I found the idea of “stronger, not smaller.” Because the more I measured my weight every week, the more agitated and frustrated I became. I felt like I was doing all the right things, yet the scale just… stood frozen. And the funny thing is, I’ve actually been more active these past three months than I was before. But my clothes feel looser. My body feels lighter. I can feel actual muscles. I have better endurance. And I feel happier. So maybe I need to stop looking for all my progress on the scale. Maybe the goal doesn’t always have to be smaller. Maybe it can just be stronger. To anyone who’s been struggling with this too, I see you. 🤍 Keep trying. Keep showing up. Consistency beats staying stagnant, always. #workoutmotivation #strongernotsmaller #davaocity #plussize #gym
