Chapter 41 — Our Little Date The next morning, Charlotte woke up earlier than usual. She quietly got out of bed. Engfa was still sleeping. Charlotte smiled. She had a plan. A very simple one. But something Engfa would remember forever. A few hours later, Engfa heard Charlotte moving around the house. “What are you doing?” “Nothing.” Engfa smiled. “You're terrible at hiding things.” “Just wait.” Charlotte took her hand. “Come with me.” “Where?” “It's a surprise.” Engfa laughed. “You know I can't see.” “I know.” “Then how am I supposed to know where we're going?” “You trust me?” Engfa smiled. “With my life.” Charlotte squeezed her hand. “Then let's go.” Charlotte guided her toward the car. They drove for almost an hour. When they finally stopped, Charlotte helped Engfa out. “Where are we?” “Wait.” Charlotte gently covered Engfa's eyes with a scarf. Engfa laughed. “You're covering my eyes?” “Yes.” “That's cruel.” “Just trust me.” Engfa smiled. “I always do.” Charlotte guided her forward. Then she removed the scarf. Engfa looked confused. Of course, she couldn't see anything. Charlotte smiled. “We're at the lake.” Engfa's face softened. “The lake?” “Yes.” “The one where we had our first date?” “The same one.” Engfa smiled. “You remembered.” “I remember everything.” Charlotte had prepared a small picnic. There was food. Fruit. Coffee. And a blanket under the shade of a tree. Engfa sat down. “This is perfect.” Charlotte smiled. “I wanted to bring you here.” “Why?” “Because this is where we started.” Engfa reached for her hand. “And now?” Charlotte sat beside her. “Now we're starting again.” They ate together. Charlotte fed Engfa a piece of fruit. “Open.” Engfa opened her mouth. Then immediately frowned. “What is that?” “Strawberry.” “I don't like it.” “You used to love strawberries.” “I changed.” Charlotte laughed. “You're so difficult.” “You still love me.” “Unfortunately.” Engfa smiled. “Say it again.” “No.” “Please.” “I love you.” Engfa smiled. “Again.” Charlotte leaned closer. “I love you.” “Again.” “You're spoiled.” “Yes.” Charlotte laughed. “I love you more than anything.” Engfa's smile became softer. “I love you too.”
