Wait..if your fiance is a Korean citizen and you are also, and you plan on staying in Korea, what is the benefit of renouncing Korean citizenship?

I respect your choices however I also agree with others who are asking why you aren’t staying together. It is only 2 years, it’s not prison. You’re not completely blocked off from communicating with your loved ones/family. There are vacations and constant allotted times for phone calls/internet. If you’re both truly committed to each other, 2 yrs will just be a temporary blip in your plans. Also, if you’re going to reunite after completing your service what is the point of breaking up? Wouldn’t getting married before you enlist be the better choice? Wishing all the best.

Maybe check out if it would be better to be already married when serving, for your relationship and finance (tax, insurance, spouse rights)? Sign the marriage papers, have dinner with closest family members and go for short honeymoon. Then start the service and know you two are covered.

I think it's the right desicion, its easier to spend this 2 years than to maybe wait decades to age out in another country or not be able to come back at all.

You are an amazing human! I have said repeatedly, you are wise beyond your years. You have put your fiancé before yourself and that is so commendable!! You have my support and I will keep you in my prayers. I hope you will be able to take us on this journey with you, so you will always know how many people are supporting you while you are fulfilling your military service. Please ignore ignorant comments!!! They just don’t get it!! Sending hugs to both of you!!! 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂

US and korea do NOT have dual citizenship, you choose one or the other at birth. I was born in Korea and am a US citizen by birth.

Dude, as a half SKorean and Hawaiian. And a dual citizen that visits Seoul twice a year, I know several Korean citizens that were given a second choice, which is joining their local police instead of joining the military!
