@gaylekirschenbaum: At 103, Mom would happily spend most of the day in bed. And lately, every time she got up, her legs hurt and walking became harder. So I fought to get physical therapy back into the house. Today she’s walking with her walker, lifting those knees and even working with ankle weights. It isn’t easy, and getting her to do the exercises when the therapist isn’t here is another story. But movement matters. There are times when a wheelchair is absolutely necessary, especially when we need to cover distance. But as long as Mom can still walk, I want to encourage her to keep using those legs. We have a big trip coming up at the end of October, and my hope is that this therapy helps ease her pain, build her strength and keep her moving.
