As someone who uses Grab on a daily basis, it is not true that Malays are delivery riders. Cos majority of my daily Grab food delivery and Grab rides are Chinese. And I use Grab 30 days a month including weekenda.

if it's mostly classism, then why the median income for indian folx are higher cf. malays and chinese? I think framing this as being a more classist thing than it being more intersectional gravely minimises the harm racism brings

You can’t say it stemmed from a race-based economic system inherited from the British when majority of the Chinese under British rule were labourers. Many South Asians (sans the convicts) were taking up administrative jobs, in the police force or traders because of their proficiency in English.

You’ve touched upon a very nuanced point. Asians are more classist than racist, their racism stems from class. In America, you could be Obama but the South would still hate just because hes black, but Asians would respect him because he’s considered one of the elites. The racism in Asia is more about generalization of racial groups as opposed to hatred of a skin color. A rich powerful Indian man would still get more respect than a poor Chinese nobody in Asia, but both would still be hated in the west

while this is true to some extent it's v reductive. racists are racist because they truly believe they r a superior race. even if say an indian is in the highest social class racists will still see them as inferior and undeserving of their status. class is a symptom of race. south asians are brought to sg to do manual labor not bcos they can't find chinese low class laborers. it's bcos they believe this level of work should be done by a race beneath them

but there is so much racism in singapore that is not labour-related... and a lot of it stems from living somewhere with an obvious majority. i think this is a pretty simplistic view.
