also it only applies to the northern hemisphere, if you were in the southern hemisphere the moss would grow towards the south

May the gods help anybody reading these comments because it is actually false that Moss grows on any particular side of a tree. Moss grows anywhere the conditions allow it to grow.

it only works on a mostly flat terrain (not on mountains) and if the environment isn't too moist, and there aren't big bodies of water near (lake, sea, ocean, big river, etc)

Always thought this was ridiculous in books unless it’s dark on a full moon or bang on high noon… you can always, you know, look at the sun for directions (the thing that’s causing the moss to grow there…)

I learned that as a kid too. Also branches tend to grow on the south side. Also, as I discovered, south and north are everywhere.
