@aviationautopsy: September 2, 1998… Swissair Flight 111 was flying from New York to Geneva when the crew noticed an unusual smell and smoke in the cockpit. 😳✈️ The pilots immediately began searching for the source while turning toward Halifax for an emergency landing. But the fire was spreading rapidly above the cockpit ceiling. 🔥 Within minutes, critical systems began failing, and the aircraft lost control before it could reach the airport. 💔 The crash of Swissair Flight 111 became one of Canada's deadliest aviation disasters and led to major changes in aircraft fire-safety standards. ✈️ #Swissair111 #AirDisaster #AviationHistory #FlightStory #AviationFacts
Wrong, what I remember. They had smoke and sent emergency and Boston gave them priority but when they contacted Swissair they got ordered to Halifax as Swissair had there a Maintenance Facility. But when the Airplane arrived Halifax there was so much Smoke in the Cockpit that the Crew didn’t see anything anymore. They decided to circle around the ocean to avoid crashing on the City. Did read that in a German Aviation Magazine ( Luftfahrt )
