I believe that's why the characters wore white gloves. Partially as a way to break up the design. So you could clearly read what their hands are doing. But the obvious reference to Minsterl shows. What's interesting is how characters wearing gloves has become so prevalent in the years since. Characters such as Mario and Sonic wear white gloves. I'm unsure if the creators realise what they are referencing. At least not originally.

Sometimes i feel a little stupid because it's hard to interact with American media as someone from another country (One that's very far removed from the whole anglosphere) because of things like this, it's hard to recognize something with this kind of heavy "cultural context" because obviously i don't know about it and that's not a thing in my culture/country. And I can't stop myself from feeling kinda "betrayed" by that kind of media when i discovered it, and also feeling like i have to have my guard up even with modern media because "what if thing is actually a dog whistle i don't know about" xd

the interesting thing is a lot of those terms used to describe goofy are also ableist terms to describe people with developmental delays or severe learning disabilities. I'm not trying to argue against your points but I wonder where the line between racism and ableism is and when they're treated as though they have to be the same thing. like the Assumption of the developmental learning delays in people of different races as a default. it was kind of makes me wonder how they handled white people who showed a lot of those symptoms and identified traits because of neurodivergence.

growing up, i never thought about goofy's race because i was too focused on watching him on the big screen. i just thought that he was a good character to represent someone who saw the good in life and could make your bad day turn good. but now knowing black people consider goofy as one of their own, i do now consider goofy to be black. thank you for this really informative video!!
