Korea and China both do this and sometimes it does feel a bit silly but on the other hand its nice that when you take a photo in public you dont have to feel self conscious and in China during the blossoms older women would offer to take my photos when they saw I was alone, so sweet (I don't mean the paid photographers I saw them everywhere but it was domestic tourists who touched my heart)

there is the same kind of thing in seoul too. even in the most beautiful places, there is some arbitrary business for people to take photos and not appreciate the nature around them.

This place has really exploded in the past 10 years, I've seen so many tiktoks of it lately with amazing hotels, shows and experiences. I went in 2015 and remembered it as a small little town with rivers in the mountains and just Chinese tourists.

it's about having evidence that you've been there, done that. and you keep a photo memory of it. most silly is climbing mount everest and posting about it. this is just a checklist that anyone can choose to explore and add it to their places they have visited

i honestly really love 打卡 culture. in the end you have a photo memory of yourself at the place instead of just photos "of" the place that looks exactly the same as any other photo of that place. it's also really nice to be able to take photos of yourself without people constantly judging or running in Front of the camera just to bother you, and chinese people are SO sweet with helping out with Photos at these spots especially when you travel by yourself
