I grew up with a family that was totally chill with nudity (skinny dipping, sleeping naked, etc) so I really don't get what folks are freaking out about 😅 have we really become so prudish?

I saw a manga where the couple was both trans and of the opposite sex. So they went into a mixed bath to prevent mayhem. I thought it was brilliant 😭 (Wife was MTF husband was FTM).

Traditional onsens are a dying breed because of the strict rules such as required nudity or no tattoos allowed. This immediate deters a huge amount of tourists. If the locals alone can’t support and keep business booming, then they close. “Tourist” onsens that allow bathing suits and tattoos do far better as a majority of travelers naturally feel more comfortable.

I want someone to explain a legitimate good reason as to why mixed baths should stay open? Outside of couples or for families (of which private onsens already exist) it just seems like most people are masking culture for being voyeuristic perverts. There’s no real reason as to why they need to exist.
