its also suuuuuper icky to change what genocide he experienced because it just ends up comparing genocides which is obviously bad

He could just age slowly as part of his mutation. Idk why it has to be so complicated lol.

I get it, but the idea of him just aging slower has a bunch of implications too. This risks giving him a look not from inside the horrors of humanity but as an external expectator ever since '45.

I have no clue why they’re running from his origin which is so tied to his character like it is OVERLY crucial that Magneto is a white male jewish holocaust survivor vs Charles Xavier the rich white man from upstate New York. Seriously we need to not change either of their origins

It’s so easy to say he just ages slower, the MCU made Namor 500 years old

I’ve been saying this for Magneto that having Sinister who is a mad scientist that specializes in genetics especially on mutants is the perfect get out of jail free card here. He captures Magneto, experiments on him and makes him younger, etc. It’s not that hard tbh.

I don’t even think making the holocaust make sense is the hard part- he just ages slow is enough for me. What I’m curious about is how they explain where tf he and all these other mutants have been while the Avengers have been running around.

Magneto was frozen by Hyrda for experimentation and lost in one of Caps raids, buried in a forgotten base for years and years before finally waking up alone and underground. The Holocaust is just yesterday for him, while modern day debates it even happened. Done. Why is this so difficult.

They should just start the movie with him old and getting a new young clone body and that's it

The easiest solution imo is to just keep magnetos backstory the same and just make it where his mutation just slows his aging. And for anyone saying thats unrealistic or not comic accurate, the mcu has never been 100% accurate because its a separate universe.

Hear me out…… Lee Pace, AN INCREDIBLY FAMOUS GAY ACTOR, is the front runner to play Magneto. And yes, I’m aware Ian McCellan also is. But make Magneto a war veteran who was also persecuted for being a gay man in the army. He was dishonorably discharged and before he could be court marshaled, he disappeared. Since he would be a public figure and his identity is generally known, if he showed up say during the Stonewall Riots or during the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, you could have it were Mutants are blamed for Homosexuality and that’s where all the hate for them comes from and anyone whom is gay is considered a mutant because of it. Make him a prominent member of the civil rights movement. Do something from MODERN times so he doesn’t have to be old as fuck! The X-Men have ALWAYS been an allegory for that.

also the "What if it was a different genocide/war" was tackled in the original 90s cartoon as in the original 90s cartoon (not the 97 soft reboot but the original cartoon) Magneto was the survivor of a brutal Eastern European civil war that was clearly inspired by stuff going on at the time like the bosnian-serbian conflicts because they couldn't actually touch upon the Holocaust or Israel in the original cartoon

Nah hard disagree, it’s important he is a survivor, it’s also important it’s the holocaust but this continued insistence that there is no other way to do him is borderline anti-art. That was not in his original debut, the spirit of adaptation is not merely mimicry, it’s to grapple with the themes of a story. I’d like him to still be an aushwiz’s survivor but I am also sick of a group (mutants) always being stand-ins for marginalized ppl ALL being white/caucasian. Especially when it’s a live action adaptation that is already gonna take hella liberties with the material. “You want him to be African? We already have MAGGET” that is a crazy fucking name 😭 to throw out as a “You already have your black magneto”

I don't want his story to be changed but if they had to, I think being Indigenous/Native could make sense. Residential school closed less than 30 years ago, and opened in in the late 1700s. Hitler also had inspiration from Native Genocide when creating concentration camps. Similarly in the Holocaust when people were tattooed with numbers, the church/priests ran the schools calling students by numbers. Both Native people and Jewish people have intergenerational trauma embedded in our DNA. I think its interesting to develop a story with this because its unlike the other superheros you mentioned

Ok but what if… he’s introduce through BP3? He’s the leader of the a hidden mutant nation of Genosha & is Storm’s Father? He can’t be Wanda or Pietro’s so why not shake things up a bit with 2 omega level African American mutants!

I get it, but the further and further we get away from the holocaust, the less it makes sense for that to be the go to origin. By 2041 the holocaust would have started a hundred years prior, and so then what? Magneto waited a hundred years to start doing anything? Either his origin changes with the times, or the X-Men have to be permanently set sometime between the 60's and 2000s.

I think they should put him on ice like Bucky. Like he was taken by hydra then unfreeze him at an age appropriate time

For any of the main X-men characters, they should just say slower aging is a common secondary mutation for more powerful mutants. No need for insane retcons and experiments.
