@theejohnnychang: People think fasting is skipping meals to get closer to God. Just because you starve the body doesn't mean you're not feeding the flesh. In Isaiah 58 God watches people give up food while they keep every bit of their pride, and He calls it out. "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?" If you're fasting without the gospel, that's not fasting. That's just hunger. The real fast is starving your pride and turning from the world to hear His voice. His voice is the gospel, and the gospel is Jesus.
