I witnessed a Marine Corps CH-53 Carrying a marine semi truck crash off the coast of Catalina Island during a training exercise before deployment. No survivors. I was stationed aboard the USS Mobile LKA 114. We deployed with the USS Bellleau Wood LHA- 3 and the USS Peleliu LHA-5. This amphibious attack group was stationed in Long Beach California back in early 1980’s
