We don’t know the details, but based on previous grievances, we believe the US asked Canada to lift Quebec’s requirements for French labelings/manuals and Quebec’s requirements that streaming services put more French content on their front pages. These requirements are part of many laws protecting French and are internal affairs. The US administration is pressuring Canada to abandon these requirements to help American companies in Canada, even though all companies including Canadian companies are subject to the same laws. This is unacceptable and an assault on our sovereignty. Good on Carney to stand up.

The exact threat on the language is pretty obvious. I work in supply chain management between both countries and Canada has a rule to where all items sold in Canada must have French translated on the products. If the deal was stuck im assuming they want that rule removed so they can cut the cost to produce separate labels. This is my educated guess.

No one gets to pick on Quebec except us. It's sibling rivalry. Anyone outside of the family comes for our French.. We all become French Canadians. You come for one of us, you get to deal with the whole family. They really don't understand how petty and vendictive Canadians are.
