Its the main thing ive been loving about playing lancer, every combat requires lock in. Every one drains resources and you sometimes have to balance trading a structure (effectively a life/a hp bar for those who dont know the system) for just a bit more damage, or risking reactor overheat to get one last action in. Its so tactics heavy :)

Just tried to have a friendly dragon (unknown to the players) attempt to extract the party from a mountain side they had to escape from (incoming hostile dragons). I swear to god, they rolled better than they ever did in the entire campaign to keep slipping from the grasp of this fucking dragon every time it got a hold of them. It felt like trying to hold wet overcooked pasta with Saran wrapped hands

My DM made it clear that for the end arc of our first season (we did Lost Mines for our first campaign as new players) we'd be fighting his level 15(?) DMPC from a campaign he was in that he didnt get to finish (not a bad thing, we love him as a bg character), and it was the one fight we REALLY hard prepared for and we almost ended up beating him if we didn't decide not to for plot LOL

For me this moment was an event my players refer to as “the bait and switch gnomennade” and it was glorious. It was their first big battle and the first time they were worried their characters might not get out of the dungeon. Just a barbarian, a ranger, and a cleric against undead enemies and creatures unknown to them and I’ve never heard of an alchemy jug being used to prep for combat in such a way. Proudest DM moment so far

Favorite personal case of this was , we were all role playing amongst ourselves to the point where the dm didnt have to interject at all , but during this , we had a group tag going because our characters had someone who could connect to psychic bond with us all so while we were role playing, we were devising a plan right in front of the dm
