what i did not expect was that the loneliest moment of my life would also be one of the most full. full in the way that 3:33am is full when you cannot sleep and cannot move and the whole night has poured itself into the room with you. full of the baby’s weight and the sound machine and the specific blue dark that exists at that hour and the thoughts that only come when there is nothing left to distract them. and underneath all of that fullness, the loneliness. sitting in it like a cold thing. and i kept trying to logic it away the way you try to logic away something that should not be true. i am not alone. the baby is here. the people who love me are asleep twenty feet away. i am objectively surrounded and yet the cold thing did not respond to the logic because it was not a logical problem. it was a visibility problem. nobody could see me in the 3:33am full dark room and i could not see anyone and invisibility at that hour in that fullness is its own particular kind of alone that has nothing to do with whether people love you or whether you are technically surrounded. and then the dots. and what they solved was not the loneliness exactly. what they solved was the invisibility. because every dot is a mom who can be seen now. who is lit up on a map at 3am instead of invisible behind a dark window. and being seen, even by a stranger, even just as a dot, even just as a light on a map at 3:33am, turns out to matter more than i knew how to say. #postpartum #newmom #postpartumsupport #momtok #momlife
