We wanted to take a minute to introduce ourselves to our newest friends. We are the Farwick Family - Steve, Amanda and Wilson and we live just outside of Columbia, South Carolina with our dog Buckeye. (Yes, you guessed it, Steve is a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.) Our son Wilson will be 10 years old this September and just happens to have down syndrome as well as a mischievous grin, the sweetest heart, and more energy than you can imagine. When Wilson was around 2 years old we started cooking together as a way to do our own therapy at home. Why pretend to cut, stir or measure when you can do it for real? When you think about it, cooking really engages so many of our traditional "therapy" skills, not just fine motor. We also engage gross motor skills when standing at a stool, and develop speech and reading as well as work on following multi-step directions when reviewing recipes. And let's not forget math. Think about how much math is involved when we cook! We have found so much joy in learning together in the kitchen that we began to share our journey with others on social media a couple of years ago as well as with the publication of our first cookbook, "Cooking with Wilson", in the summer of 2025. When we aren't cooking we enjoy volunteering in our community and cheering Wilson on in all of his various sports and extracurricular activities including baseball, soccer, gymnastics, dance, basketball, volleyball and flag football, just to name a few. Wilson also loves to swim, which is a great way to beat the SC heat. Professionally Steve & Amanda serve our South Carolina midlands as Realtors at NextHome Specialists.
