@selfhelptour: what protects us from discomfort can eventually prevent us from accessing the very experiences required for growth. Every time we stay present instead of immediately protecting ourselves, we have an opportunity to collect new evidence. That we can feel this and move through it. But we can’t put that responsibility entirely on the individual. A child can learn emotional awareness and return to an environment that rewards emotional avoidance because eventually, culture will compete with education. Which is why sustainable change requires educating the entire ecosystem. Im not looking to create communities without struggle, the goal is to create communities with a greater capacity to move through struggle without hiding from themselves and disconnecting from one another because what’s unprocessed will only get passed down.
