Although I can understand the NHS argument it doesn’t align with their policies which is what I find hard to accept! With a diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency which side effects include: Reduced egg supply, irregular ovulation and unpredictable ovarian activity that are all causes of a major decline in fertility, I struggle to understand why this condition isn’t included in their ‘The overarching criteria for NHS-funded fertility preservation includes the identification of a specific, imminent and significant risk to the patient's fertility’ Policy. At no point in my research have i seen it stated that ovarian reserve is a factor in their decision so it seems unfair for it only to be mentioned to me now 5 months after a NHS consultant proposed the treatment. I would also like to mention that although they say treatment can be funded on a case by case basis i am yet to hear from anyone following cancer treatment that has had this funding accepted. I will continue to argue this until we can hopefully come to an agreement that doesn’t leave young cancer survivors unnecessarily missing out on the chance of having their own kids.
