it amazes me when people don't know how shitty the US has always been.

I hate that people are calling horses “invasive species” HUMANS are invasive species. This is their land as much as it is ours.

Not to mention that horse are one of the few things that keep deserts alive. They’re body weight and running keep the dry ground malleable enough for the plants to grow during the rainy season. If all the horses are gone, the ground will be too hard to absorb the water or for any of the plants to grow.

Imagine if the native Americans could have fought off the white people. This country would be so beautiful!

This is important, but also, we’re torturing actual humans in concentration camps

This feels like such a deep violation for me. I don't know. There's something about the symbolism of killing wild horses that makes my stomach turn.

i legitimately was taught that white people DID kill buffalos because they wanted to kill the native americans (by taking their main food source). like i was taught this…. how do people not know this? how are people so ignorant??

this brings to mind the song "tusk and bone" by shamans harvest. every single time that song makes me cry. the horror of what so many has done to the beautiful land that takes care of us as we take care of it, the horrors ongoing. it breaks me until the grief is too much to carry and I have to set it down. and I feel guilty for having to set it down sometimes

The sheer irony of being anti colonialism but advocating for an invasive species that only exists because of violent colonialism 🙄

Thank you for saying this, Jack. This is happening in Australia with our native dingo - still called wild dogs by the government despite thousands of years of documentation of dingoes living with indigenous people and who exist in many Dreamtime stories. There’s so many comments calling the horses invasive. Horses aren’t invasive species in the lands that they evolved in. We have very clear fossil records of horses and their ancestors. There’s a reason why reintroductions of wild horses restored ecosystems in the Chinese grasslands. But America still chases horses with helicopters into kill pens.

I was living on the edge of the Navajo nation until a year ago. You are right, they have been chasing down the horses out in the desert for years.
