Jesus calls us to something the world considers impossible: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Anyone can love people who love them back, but Jesus calls us to reflect a love that is radically different—a love rooted in grace, mercy, forgiveness, and sacrifice. Think about the cross: even while Jesus was being rejected and crucified, He responded with mercy rather than hatred. Through Christ, we can choose forgiveness when bitterness feels easier, kindness when anger feels justified, and prayer when revenge feels tempting. Loving your enemies doesn’t mean pretending that wrong didn’t happen or allowing people to continue hurting you—it means refusing to let hatred control your heart and choosing to respond in a way that reflects Jesus Christ. We were once sinners in need of mercy, and Jesus gave us mercy freely. Now we get to extend that same grace to others. So today, pray for the person who hurt you. Forgive where you can. Choose love over hatred, mercy over revenge, and Christ over bitterness. Let your life show the world what the love of Jesus looks like.
