The story behind the Sassenach Skirt 🧵 It’s almost time! After months of sketching, drafting, sewing, tweaking and refining, the Sassenach Skirt sewing pattern is nearly ready to leave my sewing room and make its way into yours. But before I release my first pdf sewing pattern, I’m looking for sewing pattern testers to help me put the finishing touches on this very special design. Tester call is nearly here!✂️ So, I thought it was time to share a little more about why I called it the Sassenach Skirt. The name Sassenach has a connection to my English roots. Meaning ‘English woman’ and a term used in my favourite series Outlander! For me, it brings to mind my English heritage, the countryside, rolling hills, winding country lanes and that feeling of connection to where we come from. As the design developed, I realised the name could represent something more. Just as the English countryside moves through its seasons, our bodies move through seasons too. 🌿 The Sassenach Skirt was designed with women in mind who are experiencing changing bodies, including the bloating, fluctuating waistlines and changes that can come with peri-menopause and menopause. But it isn’t a menopause-only skirt. It is for women in every season of life. The heart of the design is the adjustable cinched waist. With two tunnels at each hip, the waist can be gently loosened or drawn in depending on how your body feels that day. Because sometimes our bodies need a little more room. Sometimes they don’t. And I don’t think our clothes should make us feel like we’ve failed when our bodies change. The garment should adapt to the woman and not the woman to the garment. I’m now at the exciting stage of calling for pattern testers, and I’m so looking forward to seeing different women bring the Sassenach Skirt to life. This pattern has been such a personal design journey for me, and I can’t wait to take you along for the final steps before its release. Inspired by my English heritage. Inspired by the countryside.
