my boyfriend was telling his mom about how he wants to get a place with me and how he wants to get married and start a life and his OWN MOTHER even said and i quote. "the family you make is more important than the family you come from." never in a million years would one of us want to cut off our parents or family or want the other one too , we actually love eachothers parents buh she had to when she was young for my boyfriends father so she understands that better than anyone ik. we ARE NOT children anymore , these relationships are REAL and could genuinely affect our lives. that's the man i want to be the father of my children , the man i wanna walk down the isle and be greeted with. that life i wanna build with him IS my future and that's more important than making sure im pleasing everyone or having fake friends who have no interest in how our future goes.

can i get some advice? my fiance doesn’t like my family and wants me to cut them off, and my mom doesn’t like my fiance because she feels like he’s taking me away from her. my mom and brother are pretty transmed, and my fiance is a feminine ftm. they can be disrespectful, but they’re good at making me feel like i’m overreacting. i just want everyone to get along. my mom still dislikes my fiance because he’s gone off on her before and told her to be a better mother. he’s an amazing fiance and takes great care of me, but she didn’t even want to be involved in our proposal. earlier this week i missed my brother’s bday get together, so my mom rescheduled it for today, which i thought was considerate. my fiance isn’t invited (i don’t think), but my brother’s gf is. it is my brother’s birthday though, so i get it. should i go? if i try to say that i’m not going unless my fiance is invited, she will just insist that him and i don’t always have to be around each other 24/7. i’ve always struggled to stand up to my family. i’m the youngest, and both of my sisters already cut my mom off and think i should too. but my mom says she’s been through a lot, struggles mentally, and feels like nobody is there for her, so i feel guilty. it’s stressing me outtt. i have no problem cutting off friends who disrespect my fiance, but family feels a lot harder.
