He's not trying to convince other people, he's trying to convince himself. He knows the truth, but he chose to walk away from it. Nobody who has known God and has truly known the truth would willingly walk away. He's trying to take others down with him. At this point he's recruiting for the other side.

I chose to believe our leaders in government want America to prosper. You could make a case against it. But I chose to believe it. Christianity has no proof but it has a cumlutive case that is enough evidence for me to choose to believe the Bible is true. Faith is a choice.
