I will say what nobody wants to say. The “push in” or integration model is NOT helpful either for the integrated kid or the rest of the class. Teachers are distracted with caring for the behavior issues for the IEP kid, the other kids are distracted by the behavioral issues of the IEP kid, and the IEP kid has less support for them as the teacher is distracted with the needs of 30+ other kids. Literally it doesn’t serve any purpose other than to exploit the labor of teachers and save the district money.

I am not a teacher. But on the parent side of things, we also agree it all has become over complicated. The kids can feel that their teachers are stressed and overworked. The system has clearly become too much testing and not enough teaching.

Push in model where you are, integration in Australia are both BS. Those kids NEED the extra supports and the other A-E students still NEED differentiation which for 1 teacher to 28 students (without support) is crazy in itself.

I started teaching in 2007, and in that time the changes I have seen have been drastic. I teach middle school, and my smallest class this year is 33 students. Every class has multiple students with IEP's and 504s, and I don't have any in class support. I'm done. I'm looking for a way out.
