@ibeshocker: I beat stage 4 cancer over a year ago, but every single month I still have to go back to the cancer center to get my chemo port flushed with saline and heparin in order to prevent it from getting clogged. Usually when I go back it’s pretty smooth sailing, but every so often my port gets clogged and they’re unable to get blood return. Usually when that happens that’s because your body starts to form fibers in the port which starts to block out the access point that’s supposed to lead it into your vein. When the access point is blocked, your port is essentially useless and can’t serve as a pathway for medication/chemotherapy. Even though I am currently in remission, my last pet scan gave me a false positive result because I was sick with a cold when I got it. Because of this my port removal got delayed since my doctor wanted a clear pet scan result before considering taking my chemo port out. Hopefully my next pet scan is perfectly clear, that way I can finally get this thing out of my body and start to feel like a normal person again #chemotherapy #cancersucks #chestport #cancerawareness #cancersurvivor
